JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO — A Jefferson County woman is facing charges for allegedly fatally shooting her boyfriend while he was sleeping.
Laurel Leeker, 48, is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Police allege she shot and killed Steven Pettit, 49, at the home they shared in the 10000 block of Vail Drive on Aug. 17.
Police said they received a call to the home for a burglary in which shots were fired. When officers arrived, they found Pettit dead in his bed. He had been shot.
Police said Leeker told officers that a burglar broke in and shot Pettit while she was in the shower.
Two juveniles who were inside the home at the time of shooting reported seeing no one exit the bedroom. An investigation of the crime scene found no signs of forced entry into the home.
Leeker is being held on a $150,000 cash-only bond.
