SAN DIEGO, CA — Police are investigating a woman's claims that she was sexually assaulted by a Lyft driver.

According to San Diego police, a woman in her 20s was picked up by a Lyft driver in Pacific Beach early Thursday morning and asked to be taken to Carlsbad.

The woman told police the male driver instead took her to an area near 4S Ranch, where she claimed the man assaulted her.

Police said the woman was dropped off at a gas station at Rancho Bernardo Road, where she called 911 at around 5 a.m.

According to police, the woman was intoxicated and could not tell them where the alleged assault occurred or provide other information.

Because the woman is not from the 4S Ranch area, officers drove her around to see if she can recall the street where the alleged assault took place.

10News learned officers took the woman to the hospital for a rape examination.

As of 8 a.m., police are continuing to search for the driver, who was described as a white male. He was driving a white Toyota Prius, police said.
