Police Investigate Sanford Man's Death

John H. Tripp, 27, was found Wednesday morning in the breezeway of an apartment building at 328 Grant St., police said. He had been stabbed, and he died later at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Officers responded to the scene based on a 911 call reporting a suicide, but they are treating the case as a suspicious death, said Capt. David Smith, of the Sanford Police Department.

A second person at the apartment is considered a person of interest in the case, Smith said.

Smith declined to say how many times Tripp had been stabbed and whether police had recovered the knife.
