Posted October 20, 2009

— Police on Tuesday were investigating the death of a 17-month-old boy on Monday afternoon.

Officers responded to a home on the 4600 block of Hope Valley Road shortly after 3 p.m. Monday and found the boy dead, said Kammie Michael, spokeswoman for the Durham Police Department.

Police are handling the case as a death investigation, pending an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Michael said.

It's the correct address. The address doesn't show up correctly on most maps since it's an apartment building, but it happened at one of the apartments in Woods Edge Apartments.

Praying for the family that lost their child.

the signifigance here is that there are no homes or businesses in the 4600 block of hope valley rd. the child obviously died on the side of the road or was hit by a car.

Again, basic story telling 101... WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE WHY AND HOW????? Without these, there is no story.

  • anneonymousone Oct 20, 2009

That means that it is not going uninvestigated, as might happen if the child was known to have a terminal illness, nor is it being assumed to be foul play or an accident, because the investigation is not complete.

It could have been reworded for clarity, but it sounds as if it's LEO jargon, not journalistic ineptitude.

as a birth investigation of course.
