Posted October 13, 2016

— Fayetteville police are investigating after a car was stolen following an attempted robbery at a Walmart.

Fayetteville police said officers responded to a Walmart gas station at 3421 Murchison Road in reference to a report of a shooting and a robbery.

Authorities said that a man parked his vehicle at the gas pump and exited while a female passenger remained inside. While the man was inside the gas station, a man wearing a white t-shirt with a red bandana around his face and a white t-shirt around his head approached the woman and demanded money.

The man returned to the vehicle and confronted the suspect, who displayed a handgun and fired a single shot toward the ground before ordering the woman to get out of the vehicle, police said.

Authorities said the suspect fled the scene in the victim’s 2006 Nissan Altima, which was found abandoned less than a mile away from the scene.

Anybody with information is asked to call Fayetteville police at 910-391-0053 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
