Police in Chapel Hill searching for armed suspect after hotel, grocery store robberies

Officials with the Chapel Hill Police Department are asking the public for assistance as they search for a suspect involved in two armed robberies on Monday.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Officials with the Chapel Hill Police Department are asking the public for assistance as they search for a suspect who was involved in two armed robberies on Monday.

According to police, the suspect robbed La Nueva Guadalupana, located at 405 W. Rosemary Street, at 8:35 p.m. and the Sheraton Hotel located at 1 Europa Drive at 9 p.m. Cash was taken from the hotel, police said, but nothing was taken from the grocery store.

Officials describe the suspect as a black male who stands approximately 6 feet tall.

At the time of the robberies, he was dressed in a black shirt and either black or khaki pants with a small green towel covering his head.

The suspect displayed a compact black handgun at both locations before getting into the passenger side of a small, light-colored sedan.
