Police identify women found decomposing in Lumberton homes

Authorities on Wednesday identified the bodies of two women found decomposing in different Lumberton homes.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — Authorities on Wednesday identified the bodies of two women found decomposing in different Lumberton homes.

Officers responded to a home at 505 Peachtree Street at about 9:30 a.m. on April 18 in response to a report of a suspicious odor and found a woman’s body inside the home.

The woman was identified as Christina Bennett, 32, whose last known address was the 1900 block of Eastwood Terrace.

The body of a second woman, found the same day at 702 East 5th Street, was identified as Rhonda Jones, 36, whose last known address was Troy Drive.

Authorities said the women were identified from prior medical records.

Causes of death for the women has not been determined and the investigation is ongoing. Anybody with information is asked to call Lumberton police at 910-671-3845.
