DURHAM, N.C. — Police on Monday released the name of the teen killed early Saturday in a single-car crash in Durham.

Ciara Malloy, 17, of Durham, died when she lost control of her car on Clayton Road. The car ran off the road and hit a tree.

Excessive speed was a factor in the wreck, but alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor, police said.

Investigators said they believe the crash occurred between 1 and 2:30 a.m., but it wasn't discovered until a passing driver reported it at about 4:45 a.m.

Police closed Clayton Road between Glenrose and Freeman roads for about four hours Saturday morning to investigate the crash.
