Police identify man accused in hit-and-run death of Henry County teen

Posted June 22

— Police have identified the man arrested and charged in a hit-and-run crash that killed a Henry County teen.

Henry County Police spokesman Mike Ireland says 16-year-old Tasia Gartner of McDonough and a friend were walking Monday evening along Georgia State Route 81.

When the two attempted to cross the road, Ireland says Gartner was hit by a car driven by 19 year-old Robert Huynh. The vehicle allegedly drove from the scene without stopping.

Gartner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Huynh was arrested at his home in McDonough at around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night. He has been charged with hit and run resulting in serious injury or death, failure to report accident and homicide by vehicle in the 1st degree.

The vehicle involved in the crash has still yet to be recovered and police believe Huynh may have taken it to a repair shop in Clayton County. The vehicle is a silver 2007 Honda Fit with the Georgia license tag of PLY 7259.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been created to help raise money for the cost of Gartner's funeral.

If you have any information regarding the crash, you're asked to contact Henry County Police at 770-288-8291.
