— Durham police have identified the man shot outside the Millennium Hotel Friday afternoon.

Police said that officers found Marquis Deir Orr, 27, of Durham, wounded in the parking lot at the hotel, at 2800 Campus Walk Drive.

Orr had been shot in the back, police said. He was pronounced dead at Duke University Hospital.

Investigators haven’t further details surrounding the crime, but they say they do not believe it was a random act. They said it did not appear that Orr was staying at the hotel.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the police department at 919-560-4440, extension 29325 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.

there are risks everywhere. Durham does need to get a better handle on crime. It's not easy, but I still like Durham. It really is a rich and rewarding city to live in . . . . . some parts, of course.

Durham wants to be taken seriously as a desirable place to work and live but their, seeming, ability to clean it up is very questionable. I lived there once for a decade and got gone. I wouldn't return for anything, in fact, I don't ever want to live in another metro area again.
