— Police on Thursday identified a suspect in a weekend wreck in Fayetteville that killed a Fort Bragg soldier.

Carson Morris, 35, was northbound on 71st School Road on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle on Saturday night when a southbound vehicle attempted to make a left turn on to Old Bunce Road in front of Morris, police said.

Morris, a staff sergeant assigned to the 7th Transportation Battalion, 82nd Sustainment Brigade at Fort Bragg, died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot. Police identified him as Leonard McMurray, 31, and issued arrest warrants charging him with involuntary manslaughter, felony hit and run, failure to yield right of way and driving with a revoked license.

McMurray wasn't in custody Thursday, and anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1911 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.

He was described as black, 6 feet tall and weighing 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

What liberal that is anti-death penalty screens these comments? People like him deserve the hangman or firing squad. Society is falling apart because of scum like him! This country is becoming too liberal.

i agree oceancandle! as a fellow veteran/motorcylist, i dont think i am better than any other person, but please, dont insult my intelligence by stating involuntary. it became voluntary the moment he ran!

So sad that our soldiers choose to put their life on the line for us to enjoy the freedoms we have... and for him to lose his life in such a way. McMurray, your rights were protected by men and women such as him. You lose your right to drive, on your own accord (DUI? DWI? Wreckless endangerment?), and then choosing to drive anyway? Disgusting. I completely agree with you Oceancandle.

INVOLUNTARY manslaughter? Obvious record since there's a mug shot, no driver's license, leaving the scene of an accident, death by vehicle, evading arrest...and he killed someone serving our country too?...shouldn't this be VOLUNTARY manslaughter...acutally, it should be murder 1 in my opinion...but that's just my opinion!

Hmmm....a suspect but they have a picture of him already. Mugshot? Ex con? Parole absconder? Another fine upstanding citizen.

McMurray, man up and turn yourself in.

Has no license but decides to drive anyway--what a great reason to run. And had the nerve to not even help the guy he hit? Wow--a great guy. Lock 'em up and throw away the keys.

I hope they catch this guy soon before he is out driving again and hit someone. He should have stayed at the scene and face the music instead he decided to run. Man up and take responsiblity for your actions of driving in the first place on suspended license.
