Police: Help ID man caught on camera passing bad check

Fayetteville police fraud detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who passed a bogus check at a Wal-Mart.

The man was captured on security video during the transaction at the store on Raeford Road.

Anyone who recognizes him is asked to call detectives at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.

You have to remember: when they say "bad check," it doesn't necessarily mean the money isn't available in the account. It could also mean he posed as someone else to pass the check, he used someone else's checking account number and printed it onto checks form an online check ordering site, etc. There are many ways to "pass a bad check." You are not just helping Walmart track him down. You are helping the people victimized by this criminal behavior--you and me through increased prices due to theft, as well as the person whose account he may have used. Hopefully, they already have him.

Still surprise he was able to do that, also say, I'm betting his picture and name is already on file

I have no idea how he could write a bad check at Walmart-they run your check instantly through the machine to collect their money and hand it back to you already debited.

Amazing that some justify stealing in certain instances and from certain places. Thieves cost ALL OF US money no matter how much someone thinks the retailer "can afford it."
