— A Goldsboro man used a recycling bin to steal about $75 worth of copper and a gas valve from a house Thursday morning, according to police.

Officers arrested Darrell Keith Applewhite, 44, of 807 Second St., after someone called 911 and reported a man leaving a vacant house, pulling a recycling bin at about 7:45 a.m. Officers determined the property was taken from 1000 Edgerton St.

Applewhite was charged with larceny, possession of stolen property and damage to real property. He was being held in the Wayne County jail under a $2,500 secured bond.

You know, these guys actually work and expend energy stealing copper, why don't they get a job with plumber or HVAC, and put that same energy installing something and making a paycheck?

Because if he did that he would lose his government food stamps, section 8, health care, electric money and all the rest of the freebies this "person" and his entire family (going back generations) have been collecting and will continue to for the next three generations.

I'm guessing that this guy never has and never will contribute anything to society. It's a shame that there are so many more like him.

2,500.00 bond and that amount won't touch what the homeowner will have to fork over for repairs.

"maybe they would quit doing this but I guess on the other hand, they don't care."

Why would they care? They get 3 hots and a cot regardless of the damage done. Must be nice when your punishment is a step up from your normal life.

They need to start putting them in jail with a higher bail. Sooner or later they'll get the picture that's not worth doing this.

If only the guys would realize how much a pain in the rearit is to re-feed and re-wire a house that they have been under and snipped the wires flush where the penetrate the floor, maybe the would quit doing this but I guess on the other hand, they don't care.
