Goldsboro, N.C. — Goldsboro police on Tuesday charged a 68-year-old man with first-degree kidnapping and attempted second-degree sexual offense in connection with a Sunday assault that occurred after a party at his home.
According to investigators, Roland Whitley, of 1700 Harris St., locked a LaGrange woman in a barn behind his home Sunday and tried to sexually assault her. The woman escaped from restraints using a screwdriver and stole a bottle of liquor belonging to Whitley before fleeing the barn, authorities said.
Soon after, Whitley approached the woman in his car, took back his bottle of liquor, pushed her to the ground and stole her purse.
Authorities arrested Whitley at his home Tuesday without incident. He was charged with a single count of first-degree kidnapping, second-degree sexual offense and larceny from a person.
Whitley was in the Wayne County jail Wednesday under a $50,000 secured bond. He will make a first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
