— A University of North Carolina senior found dead in his Chapel Hill apartment last Thursday is not likely the victim of foul play, police said Monday. An official cause of death is pending.

Police have requested an autopsy for 21-year-old Harris Pharr, of Raleigh.

Pharr was studying biomedical engineering and was a  brother of the Alpha-Alpha Chapter of Chi Phi fraternity. He was found at his apartment, at 500 Pittsboro St., just before 6 p.m. Thursday evening.

Pharr's death is not the first for the fraternity. In October 2012, 18-year-old David Shannon died after climbing machinery at a concrete plant in Carborro and falling about 40 feet.

Police in January said they will not close that case until they can prove whether the 18-year-old was alone when he fell to his death.

    Was illegal drugs involved?

JAT: "They know what killed him, at least the very basics."

There's nothing reported thus far to suggest they know what killed him. The article specifically says "an official cause of death is pending", and the fact that they have ordered an autopsy suggests they are still trying to determine the cause of death. If he had been shot, which is one possibility you suggest, then they likely would have already concluded the cause of death and would not be ordering an autopsy. Tray Cee said "they aren't giving any information at all on this" even though its reasonably fair to assume they are giving us all they know at this point.

Tray Cee: "So weird that they aren't giving any information at all on this."

We've been told he was found dead in his apartment, the police don't expect foul play, and the police have requested an autopsy to try to identify the cause of death. Exactly what information aren't they giving?

Awful. The sad return of the Chi Phi Curse.

Will be interesting to see the toxicology report. This is the same fraternity under suspension for copious alcohol violations and the same one where another guy died from alcohol recently.

If they are waiting for witnesses that he was alone I think they are in a logic loop.
