DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham police officer was seriously injured early Saturday when her police car was struck by a suspected impaired driver, according to police.

Lt. L.D. Campbell was driving a marked 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe near the intersection of Geer and North Roxboro streets shortly after 3 a.m. when the driver of a 1999 Dodge Durango struck the left front of her vehicle, according to police.

The driver, Marcus Toby Leon Fox, 37, of Liberty Street, jumped out of his vehicle and ran but was caught a short time later, police said.

He was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run, driving while impaired, driving while his license was revoked, running a red light and simple possession of marijuana. He was released on bond Saturday.

Campbell was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
