DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man was arrested Tuesday and charged in the Monday abduction of three girls.

Juan Carlos Gutierrez, 51, of Rose Garden Lane was arrested after the children, ages 11, 13 and 15 were located unharmed in Selma.

Authorities said Gutierrez came to the Durham apartment where the three girls lived and they left with him. The girls’ parents were unable to contact them after they left.

It is believed the girls knew Gutierrez.

Gutierrez was charged with three counts of abduction of children and served with a warrant charging him in the abduction of a Johnston County child last summer.

Johnston County authorities said Gutierrez is accused of abducting a 13-year-old girl from Beulahtown Road near Kenly on Aug. 21, 2015. She was driven to a Selma hotel and later found unharmed, police said.

Gutierrez was being held at the Johnston County jail under $100,500 bond Tuesday afternoon.

An investigation is ongoing.
