Durham, N.C. — Durham police charged a 48-year-old man Tuesday who they say accidentally shot himself and then shot an 18-year-old during a dispute over a toddler's haircut.
Investigators believe that Dennis M. Ettson, of Waring Street, got in an argument with the 18-year-old man in the 600 block of Stratton Way late Sunday morning, said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael. She said that Ettson accidentally shot himself in the arm and then shot the victim.
Both men were treated for their injuries and released from a local hospital.
Ettson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon in the presence of a minor, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm within the city limits.
He was placed in the Durham County jail under a $600,000 bond.
