Police: Deaths at Mount Olive cemetery 'an isolated incident'
A cemetery in southern Wayne County turned into a crime scene when Mount Olive police found the bodies of two people who did not belong there.
Posted — UpdatedPolice Chief Ralph Schroeder said Tuesday that he's waiting reports from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the State Bureau of Investigation to determine exactly what happened to Martavia Shevon Royster, 16, of East Kornegay Street, and Tiqko King, 29, of East Nelson Street.
Police found their bodies in Carver Cemetery Sunday afternoon.
Schroeder said Royster had recently moved to Mount Olive and lived with her grandmother, less than two miles from the cemetery.
"Mount Olive is not that big an area or town, and we're pretty familiar with everyone in town," Schroeder said. "We did not recognize her."
Schroeder said the pair knew each other, and that they both died of gunshot wounds.
Although the case is still open, the chief said people who live nearby shouldn't be worried about their safety.
"We believe this is an isolated incident," he said. "At this point, I don't feel that there are any other suspects."
