I-440 West reopens in Raleigh after pedestrian death

Raleigh, N.C. — Raleigh police reopened all westbound lanes of Interstate 440 between Poole Road and New Bern Avenue early Tuesday after spending hours investigating the death of a female pedestrian.
An emergency call came in about 7:30 p.m. Monday, and police found April Alston, of Raleigh, dead at the scene. Police said she was hit by as many as five cars.
The highway was closed for about five hours while police investigated Alston's death.
Raleigh police said they are not investigating Alston's death as a homicide and do not expect to make any arrests.
No other information was released.
