Police: Chapel Hill housekeeper stole jewelry

Chapel Hill, N.C. — Chapel Hill police charged a former housekeeper with stealing jewelry from residents at a retirement community.
Police charged Heather Marie Gates, 31, of 9513 Gates Lane in Chapel Hill, with eight counts of felony larceny and one count of misdemeanor larceny.
She is accused of stealing jewelry from nine people at the Cedars Retirement Community at Meadowmont, where she was employed as a housekeeper.
Gates allegedly stole the jewelry between Sept. 22 and 30.
Chapel Hill police transferred her warrants to police in Durham, where Gates was being held in connection with other crimes.
