Police: Cary man posed with stolen car on Facebook

Matthew Adam Thompson, of 1133 Alston Village Lane, and his friend, Samuel James Clayton Harvey, were arrested Sept. 18 after police spotted them in a vehicle that matched the description of one used in burglary, the warrants state.

Police stated in the warrants that they found evidence linking Thompson and Harvey to several home burglaries and the theft of two vehicles from a car dealership.

Thompson posted a picture of himself with a stolen Mercedes in the parking lot of his apartment complex on Facebook, and officers also found fake identification they had used at a local car dealership, the warrants state.

Thompson faces 14 charges including breaking and entering, second-degree burglary, possession of stolen goods, possession of cocaine and felony conspiracy. Harvey faces 10 charges including breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and felony conspiracy.

Thompson was charged in the past with impersonating a law enforcement officer, police said.

Harvey has 2009 convictions for two counts of breaking and entering and one count of wanton injury to personal property, according to state Department of Correction records. He was sentenced to probation.
