CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is seeking public assistance in locating a man who burglarized a home and assaulted the owner earlier this month.

Authorities said that, on Dec. 1, a woman opened the back door of her home in the Sheffield Farms North subdivision on Muscat Road to let her dog out. As she opened the door, a man forced his way into the house and pinned the woman against a kitchen table, deputies said.

The woman’s dog bit the man’s arm, causing him to release her and run out the back door and into the woods behind the house, authorities said.

The man is described as being “bony,” 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a slim build. The woman told police that he also smelled strongly of cigarette smoke.

Anybody with information about the man is asked to call the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-323-1500.
