Police: Man killed in Fayetteville wreck

Posted November 14, 2013

— Fayetteville police were investigating a fatal wreck early Thursday near the intersection of Dunn and Soffe roads northeast of downtown.

According to investigators, a black SUV left the roadway overnight and crashed through a fence and bushes before coming to rest in a pond off of the roadway.

A man was killed, and authorities were searching the pond late Thursday morning to determine if anyone else was inside at the time of the wreck. The man's name was not released, but employees at AAA Towing on Dunn Road said the man was 36-year-old Timothy Duncan, a mechanic for AAA.

Employees said Duncan was alone when he wrecked, and the wreck happened after he had been out with his wife and friends. Duncan was the father of six kids, the employees at AAA Towing said.

Fayetteville police were alerted to the wreck when a passerby called after seeing damage to the fence and bushes near the pond.

No other details about the wreck were immediately available.

I know that area well. It looked as if he probably fell asleep at the wheel. Poor guy. Condolences to his family.
