Fayetteville, N.C. — Two men wanted in connection with the slaying of 49-year-old Fayetteville man were taken into custody late Monday.
Genesis Lee Whitted Jr., 20, of 812 Glensford Drive, was arrested during a traffic stop by a state Highway Patrol trooper off Old Wilmington Road. Whitted has been charged with the first-degree murder of Kenneth Benjamin Underwood.
Underwood died after being shot in front of his home at about 11:50 p.m. on Sept. 17, police said.
Rico Lee Miles, 27, of Spaulding Drive, was also taken into custody Monday evening and charged with violating parole. Miles has been named a person of interest, not a suspect in Underwood's death.
Both men were being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center. Whitted was expected to appear in court at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Miles' court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 22.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Fayetteville Police Department at 910-483-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
