More charges filed in Southern Pines shooting

Posted April 9, 2013

— Police filed more charges Tuesday against a shooting suspect who walked away from UNC Hospitals Saturday morning.

Larry Alexander Leverette, 21, now faces charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to sell/manufacture/distribute cocaine, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Southern Pines police say Leverette was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants from another county when he was injured in a shootout with another man Friday afternoon outside Brookside Park Apartments on Richards Street.

Leverette was shot three times in the torso and once in his left bicep, and UNC Hospitals said he left "before being officially discharged from treatment and against medical advice."

He was arrested Monday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of cocaine and a probation violation. He is being held in the Moore County jail under a $1.2 million bond.

another example of felons not following current gun laws. No need to have more gun laws. We need to demand that a Felon caught with a gun gets a Minimum specific time put in jail. No plea bargins, no slap on the wrist and let back on the streets. Jail time period. We have too many of these same people on and on again in the news over and over then eventually killing somebody.
