Police arrest man for allegedly abusing dog in Hillsboro gas station
Hillsboro police Wednesday arrested a man who was caught on camera allegedly abusing his dog in a gas station Monday.
Posted — UpdatedWilliam Abbe was arrested around 10 p.m. and faces charges of attempted animal abuse, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession and violation of release agreement.
Abbe was filmed by a witness allegedly yanking and hitting his dog, Darnell, in a gas station at 275 Baseline Street.
The dog's cries and yelps can be heard in the video while Abbe screams profanities at it.
Darnell was taken into police custody and was examined by a local veterinarian. The dog was not seriously injured.
Police said Thursday Darnell is doing fine and is still in protective custody.
Court documents show Abbe has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1989. In 2015, he was cited for failing to have his service dog on a leash or harness while riding a TriMet train. TriMet officials worked with Abbe to resolve the issue and the initial citation was dismissed.
He will appear in court Thursday afternoon.
