Police: Man tried to hide gun that killed his daughter

Posted October 30, 2013

— After his 2-year-old found his weapon, fired it and accidentally killed herself, Melvin Andre Clark Jr. tried to hide that gun, police say. That action led police to tack on more charges against him this week.

According to the warrant his arrest, police K-9s found Clark's .22 caliber Beretta behind a neighboring home. Clark, a convicted felon, should not have had a gun at all.

Police say Samarri Tyana Beauford found the loaded .22 semi-automatic pistol under a couch Oct. 20 in a home she shared with her father.

He faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His attempt to hide the gun earned him additional charges of resisting a public officer and failure to store a firearm.

Clark was in jail on a $50,000 secured bond.

can a small child really pull the trigger while aiming a gun towards herself?? sounded kinda fishy to me

Way to be concerned about yourself after your daughter shoots herself with your gun...there are no words for how I feel about this "man"

It was her son's gun, not hers. Why should anyone be charged when it was inside their home and they themselves were the victim of crime?

Pistol was probably a Bobcat 21. Neat little gun. They have a manual safety. Wonder if it was set? Wonder if the gun was in single action mode with the hammer back? We’ll never know.

For some, or most parents, probably. But there’s a lot that don’t really care. They consider kids as a bothersome byproduct of sexual deeds. A 19 year old criminal probably doesn’t care. Hiding the gun shows his priorities.

You need to re-read that story. It WAS stored, INSIDE her garage. I thief broke in and stole it. She broke no laws.

Apparently, he cares enough to go hide the gun. I think most caring fathers wouldn't be worried about themselves after their daughter was killed, but not this one!

    $50,000 bond? Really?

what a piece of filth this guy is, yet he will face little penalties & be out soon running the roads...so sad

I think Elmers should be charged with failure to store a firearm, also.

This guy: pathetic. More concerned with keeping himself out of trouble than with the fact that he caused his daughter's death...hiding the gun, really?!?

"More gun laws could have prevented this. Somehow? Right?
    jb100"

Gun laws like Australia's would have.
