I-40 reopens at Rock Quarry Road

Posted March 2, 2016

UPDATE: 7:35 a.m.: Interstate 40 reopened shortly after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday after police activity near Rock Quarry Road closed the highway for more than an hour.

Police activity on Interstate 40 at Rock Quarry Road has both roads shut down early Wednesday morning.

The Raleigh Police Department said officers were "dealing with a matter" at the interchange of I-40 and Rock Quarry Road, though the situation did not present a threat to public safety.

Traffic was being detoured around the closure.

So WRAL had a helicopter out, showing a sedan on its roof blocking what I think was the westbound lanes, but that doesn't explain why the eastbound lanes were closed. I'm very curious to find out what actually went down there.
