Police: 70 shots fired in death of Fayetteville man

Posted June 23

A person was in critical condition after being shot in Fayetteville early Sunday, June 22, 2014, in the 1500 block of Grandview Drive.

— More than 70 shots were fired in the 1500 block of Grandview Drive in Fayetteville early Sunday, Police Chief Harold Medlock said.

Ravon Detrail Jordan, 19, was injured and died of his wounds Monday at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.

In a news conference Monday after Jordan's death and the shooting, Medlock expressed frustration with the ongoing plague of youth crime and pointed the finger at lax parenting.

"I'm angry, and everybody in this city should be angry," Medlock said. "I'm counting on parents of our children to find out where their kids are.  Why kids are out at one and two o'clock in the morning (at) 15, 16, 17 years old. I'm counting on our parents to start parenting their children and making sure they are home and that they are safe."

Medlock asked that anyone with information about the shootout contact detectives at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be shared on Crime Stoppers' website or by texting a message to 274637. In the text box, type "4Tip" and then the message.

Anyone who knows the person that took this life should be talking to the police. Meanwhile the killer is still walking among you and the streets. You want that?

to hold the parents fully responsible and have them sit in jail like their kids.

A good idea that would not work.

Nothing good ever happen after 11 or 12 pm. Everyone should be home, unless they are actually legally working. Now the murderer is facing life in prison. Who would want that? Wake up parents, you play a majoy role in your child's life. Train up a child in the way he/she should go, when they are older they will not depart from it. (it in the bible)

Why kids are out at one and two o'clock in the morning (at) 15, 16, 17 years old.

A good parent would not allow their child to be out all night to the early hours of morning. They would be home. Why does these tragedies continue to happen? Why do people have to kill to settle an issues? My condolences to the family.

The solution?? At one time the State had a sterilization program. Maybe it can be brought back. A more plausible step would be to hold the parents fully responsible and have them sit in jail like their kids.

We just had them to boost our welfare check.

As long as our government keeps on enabling them to and paying them to multiply freely the burdens multiply exponentialy. Welfare should come with mandatory birth control. Some form of enlightenment should be administered to the parents and any offspring. But ,,,, nothing of the sort will ever happen and the whole mess will just engulf the USA. Sensible people will have to live in Forts and fend off the Indians just like back in the day. Ignorance left unchecked will flourish like a bad weed.

All so called parents should also be rounded up that is Mommy and sperm donor, Daddy and If grandparents have assumed parental role them and charge with child neglect. Yes you should set rules for your children and enforce them if you do not you are neglecting them
