CLAYTON, N.C. — Police are searching for two men who robbed a Clayton convenience store early Saturday morning.

Two men wearing hoods and masks walked into the front doors of the Speedway convenience store at 8060 U.S. Highway 70 Business around 1 a.m., according to police. One of the men was carrying a handgun that a store clerk believed was a BB gun because it had an orange tip, police said.

Police said the men asked the clerk to open the cash drawer, and they took an undisclosed amount of money.

The men ran away toward a nearby storage facility, and the clerk called 911.

The clerk was not harmed.

Police used K-9 officers to track the suspects, but they were not found.

Anyone with information about the robbery should call Det. Col. Kilpatrick at 919-553-4611.
