Polar Ice House of Cary will host an open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, to showcase the rink's offerings and share information about a new coed hockey league for kids ages 5 to 18.

Polarpalooza features an afternoon of free activities at the rink on Buck Jones Road in Cary. Guests can skate, take part in free mini-lessons and enjoy free food from Carolina Ale House and other local restaurants, along with free cotton candy, popcorn, cookies and drinks. They'll have raffle prizes for everything from birthday parties and half-day camps to a kayak rental from REI. And Stormy, the Carolina Hurricanes' mascot, will make an appearance.

Parents also can learn more about the new House Hockey League for kids. Kids can register for the league on Saturday and receive a free clinic and stick and puck passes. The season starts in September.

Check the rink's website for details.
