WAUKESHA, WI — One of the two girls accused of stabbing her friend because of the fictional character Slender Man appeared in Waukesha County Court Monday morning.

15-year-old Anissa Weier appeared for a status conference. The judge agreed to amend her charge from First Degree Intentional Homicide to Second Degree.

Because of the guilty plea, when she goes to trial on September 11, the jury will only have to determine if she is not guilty because of mental disease or defect.

Weier faces a maximum sentence of 35 years.

Her accomplice, Morgan Geyser, is accused of Attempted First Degree Homicide in this case. She will appear in court later this afternoon.
