Playground Review: Walltown Park in Durham
If your child likes to climb, the playground at Walltown Park is a place to check out.
Posted — UpdatedMy older daughter loves to climb and Walltown Park playground could quickly rise to the top of her list of favorite playgrounds in the Triangle.
The brightly colored equipment features at least a dozen ways to climb, pull up and move around. There's a small rock climbing wall, ropes, leaf-shaped steps, ladders and a contraption that involves kids sticking their feet in circles and pulling themselves from one end to the other.
The playground, which sits next to the Walltown Recreation Center (where you'll find bathrooms), features play equipment designed for kids 2 to 5 and 5 to 12. You'll find a strip of plastic bongos and other drums to bang on and a tire swing. The surface under all of the equipment is mulch.
While much of the play equipment is pretty standard - steps, ladders, manipulatives - the size of the structure for older kids and the number of climbing pieces make it unique. One drawback: It didn't look like there was much shade here in the summer.
