The 30-acre Honeycutt Park off Honeycutt Road has long been a favorite spot for some north Raleigh families.

It's home to an outdoor basketball court, baseball field and sand volleyball court, but its real draw might just be the playground. This isn't a major collection of play equipment. And, in the heat and sun of the summer, it's not the most shaded place to play.

But it does provide some wide open spaces for kids to run around and climb. And the large play piece, which looks to me a little bit like a tree, offers some fun alternatives, including a three-chute slide.

There are bathrooms and a covered picnic shelter right next to the playground. There was plenty of parking too (though there were no games or practices when I was there). A small piece of Raleigh's greenway runs along the park. It's part of a bigger section, which is under construction now.

For a closer look, watch the quick video tour.

Go Ask Mom features places to take kids every Friday. Check our posts on parks and playgrounds and Triangle family destinations for more ideas.
