Plane reports mechanical problem, lands safely at RDU

Posted August 8, 2013

— An American Eagle jet heading from Atlanta to New York made an unscheduled landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Thursday after reporting a mechanical problem, airport officials said.

Flight 3419, which was carrying 54 passengers and four crew members, landed without incident about 3:15 p.m., RDU spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin said.

Officials did not immediately say what kind of mechanical problem was reported.

Hamlin said American Eagle was making arrangements for the passengers to continue to LaGuardia Airport in New York.

Apparently they should have opted for the latest airline fee. For an extra $50 they'll make sure the aircraft is mechanically sound before takeoff.

Looking at the video at the 20 second view it looks like only the left engine, the one away from the camera, has the thrust reverser engaged after touchdown. The view makes it look like the problem was with the number 2 engine.
