— A single-engine airplane licensed to an Apex man crashed Tuesday morning in central Florida, according to media reports from that state.

Richard Jackson told First Coast News that he was standing outside his home when he heard "what sounded like an explosion.

"I looked up, and here comes a plane crashing down out of the sky with a parachute behind it. It landed in my backyard," Jackson said.

The Florida Times Union reported that the pilot was taken to an area hospital.

Neither media outlet identified the pilot, but the plane is registered to David R. Thomas, of 357 Black Willow Drive in Apex. According to the flight-tracking website FlightAware, the plane had left the Raleigh Executive Airport in Lee County en route to Leesburg, Fla.

I hope the pilot is okay! It's a good thing he didn't hurt anyone on the ground. Prayers for the family

It's going to cost some money, but that plane will fly again.

I bet the owner is happy he spent the extra money on a Cirrus with a CAPS system!
