Pizza deliveryman beaten in robbery improving

A pizza deliveryman severely beaten during a robbery Friday evening is getting better, according to officials at WakeMed hospital in Raleigh.

GARNER, N.C. — A pizza deliveryman severely beaten during a robbery Friday evening is getting better, according to officials at WakeMed hospital in Raleigh.

Di Yang, 51, improved from critical to fair condition Sunday, hospital officials said.

Witnesses told police that several men surrounded, beat and robbed Yang in a parking lot while he was making a delivery to the Bryan Woods apartment complex in Garner.

Yang was the third delivery driver from a Papa John's on Vandora Springs Road to be robbed in the past six weeks. All the robberies occurred with a half-mile of the store.

Police believe the men that robbed Yang were also involved in August robberies at Westchester Apartments on 7th Avenue.

Demetrice Lamont Tucker, 17,of 106 Center St., was arrested in the robbery of Yang. Tucker was charged in the  with common-law robbery and assault inflicting serious bodily injury. He was being held in the Wake County Jail Saturday under a $500,000 secured bond.

The Garner Police Department offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of other people involved in the robbery.
