— Chatham County deputies arrested a Pittsboro man and charged him with five counts of felonious statutory rape after he was accused of having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl.

Deputies began working the case Sunday afternoon when they received information from a family member of the girl that Mauro Gilberto Delgado-Perez, 30, of 225 Masonic St., had assaulted the girl.

Delgado-Perez turned himself in to authorities later that day and was cooperative with investigators, authorities said.

Deputy Joseph Engel and Detective Tom McGinty arrested Delgado-Perez and he was jailed under a $750,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on July 27.

Just went back and looked at his photo.... Very interesting tattoo under his eye. Clearly not his first rodeo at violent crime.

how do you know that it was a VIOLENT crime?

Maybe we should encourage him and tell him he is a wonderful person at heart and instruct him not to sexually molest children. Then we can put him on unsupervised probation and send him back into the community a reformed man!

I am sure this is all it will take to fix this 'misunderstanding'.

Sorry to hear about the young lady involved - might I suggest that she employ the 'Statuatory Beating' approach & club him with a small statue as punishment?

It is a cultural difference. We must respect cultural differences. Soon we will have Sotomayor on the SC and we will all be made to understand.
