Pinehurst No. 2: Hole 16

A hole-by-hole look at Pinehurst No. 2 ahead of the US Open in June.

Posted Updated

Par 4, 528 yards, HCP 4/16

This is typically a par-5 but was played as a par-4 in the 2005 U.S. Open and will be a par-4 for 2014. It played as the second-most difficult hole in 2005. There is a hidden bunker on the left of the fairway and the course’s only water element.

Our take:

Gerald Owens, anchor/reporter: Par-4 that I birdied!! We played it as a par-5. If you dodge the bunkers, you can score on this hole. Pros may take 3-wood or hybrid to the green if they are adventurous. They will easily get there in three, with a chance for birdie.

John Renigar, graphics producer/director: No. 16 is the ONLY water hazard on the course. It can come into play on the tee shot for amateurs but will not be an issue for the pros
