— A longtime pilot who crashed into the shoulder of I-85 near Red Mill Road on Friday is listed in serious condition, a nurse supervisor said Thursday.

Durham County sheriff's deputy Rick Fuller was flying a 1947 Piper J3C plane when it crashed around 7 p.m.

Fuller was transported in critical condition to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where he had been upgraded to fair condition Monday before being returned to critical condition Tuesday.

Keeping him in my thoughts daily. Not atypical for someone w these types of injuries to go up and down on the road to recovery. I think, for whatever reason, he will make it through.
Bad things happen to good people....and then they go on and do more good things.
