Pilot refuses medical treatment after Angier plane accident
ANGIER, N.C. — Federal investigators will be in Wake County Saturday morning to determine what caused a small plane to hit a ditch and roll off a grass runway at the Fuquay/Angier Field Airport.

The incident happened at about 8 p.m. Friday as the pilot attempted to land after flying from Sanford. Authorities say he misjudged the runway, hit a ditch and then rolled off the runway.

The pilot, whose name has not been released, refused medical treatment following the incident.

"It landed short and eventually collided into the ditch with the front wheel and as soon as it struck it spun the airplane around," Sgt. Greg Rhew, with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, said.

The fixed wing, single-engine DA 40 aircraft was manufactured in 2005. It is registered to Beraca Avaiation, a company in Wilson.

No other information about the incident has been released.
