GWINNETT, GA — A small Sonex airplane landed safely on Georgia Highway 316 Monday afternoon just east of Harbins Road.

The pilot, Fred Meyer, was not injured.

The plane was headed to Gwinnett County Airport at Briscoe Field airport when it made the emergency landing about three miles away, according to FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen. She said only Meyer was on board.

The experimental aircraft is an amateur-built aircraft designed with WWII markings on it. It is registered out of Buford.

The plane was pulled onto the median while awaiting the Federal Aviation Administration, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department, and eventually towed back to Briscoe Field.
