PIKEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities in Wayne County arrested and charged a 42-year-old Pikeville man on Friday in connection with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old child that occurred Jan. 7.

Deputies arrested Joshua Daniel Pelt, of 1228 Gurley Dairy Road, at a home he moved to after he learned about warrants being issued for his arrest.

After an investigation began Jan. 7, warrants were secured for Pelt's arrest Jan. 10. Pelt moved to a different location, also on Gurley Dairy Road, in an attempt to elude law enforcement officers and leave the state, authorities with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department said.

Pelt is charged with first-degree rape of a child and indecent liberties with a child and is being held under a $510,000 secured bond.

No other information was released.
