— Authorities in Wayne County arrested and charged a 42-year-old Pikeville man on Friday in connection with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old child that occurred Jan. 7.

Deputies arrested Joshua Daniel Pelt, of 1228 Gurley Dairy Road, at a home he moved to after he learned about warrants being issued for his arrest.

After an investigation began Jan. 7, warrants were secured for Pelt's arrest Jan. 10. Pelt moved to a different location, also on Gurley Dairy Road, in an attempt to elude law enforcement officers and leave the state, authorities with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department said.

Pelt is charged with first-degree rape of a child and indecent liberties with a child and is being held under a $510,000 secured bond.

No other information was released.

"Relax...as TeeNDAD said, it is not a crime to look. We, male and female, are visual creatures. For goodness sake, "

Yes we are visual creatures, but if you look at a 12 year old child dressed like a "Proper strumpet" and think about anything sexually, you do have a major problem. Seeing a pretty little girl, is nothing more seeing a pretty little girl. Pretty LITTLE GIRL being the key here.

Because the sex of the child wasn't mentioned, my bet is it's a boy. Double standard.

He will get his punishment once he is placed in the prison system. He will cry himself to sleep every night."

Yes, it's called "welcome to life at the bottom of the food chain"

"That is true but not every person on this planet is the same, nor do each of us respond the same way to events in our lives."

The point was that being a victim of abuse doesn't make it ok to repeat the cycle, and that the only reason we don't see any improvements in this cycle is because we don't adequately punish the people committing these crimes.

"There are MANY victims of abuse who do not go on to repeat the cycle."

"We often say if we just get rid of the person who did the crime then everything will be ok. As we continue to see it doesn't not turn out ok."

That's because we don't 'get rid of the person', we slap them on the wrist and let them out to lose control yet again. There are MANY victims of abuse who do not go on to repeat the cycle. Being a victim of abuse is not an excuse to put someone else through it.

Raping anyone be they child or adult is an exercise in control and power. It very rarely has to do sexual attraction or desire. Very often it is found that the rapist has at some point in their life been a victim of rape or some other trauma. To get that feeling of control back they often act out in a manor like this. In this country we don't do a very good job of taking care of the victims. We often say if we just get rid of the person who did the crime then everything will be ok. As we continue to see it doesn't not turn out ok.
