Wreck briefly knocks out power in Clayton; driver charged with DWI

A car crash on U.S. Highway 70 in Clayton briefly knocked out power to businesses and a senior center in the area.

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A crash on U.S. Highway 70 Business in Clayton Friday night briefly knocked out power to businesses and a senior center in the area.

Police said the crash happened before 8 p.m. when David Michael Onan, 46, of Clayton, veered off the road and crashed into a power box. Onan was not seriously injured, and he was charged with DWI, failure to maintain lane and injury to real property.

Onan was taken to the Johnston County jail and given a $3,000 secured bond.

Power was knocked out to to a nearby shopping center, a senior citizen complex and area stoplights, but crews restored electricity in about an hour.
