Pets, people run to benefit SPCA

— More than 500 people registered to run for the animals Sunday morning in Raleigh.

The SPCA of Wake County held its Santa Paws 5K race on the campus of Dorothea Dix.

WRAL's Gerald Owens and Tara Lynn volunteered for the event.

    There are occasional 5Ks that benefit nursing homes, meals on wheels, and the like. You sort of have to dig to locate them, but they do exist.

    It's amazing how people never run for our senior citizens confined to a nursing home and who are often neglected..
