72-year-old struck, killed by Amtrak train in Mebane

Authorities said one person was struck by an Amtrak train in Mebane Saturday afternoon.

MEBANE, N.C. — Authorities said one person was struck by an Amtrak train in Mebane Saturday afternoon.

Officers with the Mebane Police and Fire Departments responded to the collision at South First Street and North Carolina Highway 70 at about 2:20 p.m.

Emanuel Wilson , 72, of Mebane was attempting to cross the railroad tracks from West Center Street toward West Washington Street when he was struck by the train, authorities said. Wilson was declared dead at the scene.

Sixty-seven people were on board the train at the time of the incident, but none were injured, officials said.

The train, Piedmont 74, travels daily between Raleigh and Charlotte.
