Wendell Scott was NASCAR’s first African-American star and is the only one to compete full-time in the NASCAR Winston-Cup Series. He had 147 top-10 finishes in nearly 500 races. He finished in the top-20 in nearly 80 percent of his races. He won one race in 1963, becoming the first African-American to do so. But that win was filled with controversy.
