Child Car Seat Checking Stations Open In Orange, Chatham Counties

The University of North Carolina Health Care's Safe Communities/SAFE KIDS program now offers free child car seat checks at three permanent checking stations in Orange County and one in Chatham County.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The University of North Carolina Health Care's Safe Communities/SAFE KIDS program now offers free child car seat checks at three permanent checking stations in Orange County and one in Chatham County.

The locations and hours of operation of the permanent checking stations are:

  • Chapel Hill Fire Department Station 2, 1003 South Hamilton Rd., Chapel Hill Car seat checks available from 3-5 p.m. on Saturdays. Call (919) 968-2781 for more information.
  • Carrboro Fire Department, 301 West Main Street, Carrboro. Car seat checks available from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturdays. Call (919) 918-7347.
  • Orange Rural Fire Department, 206 South Churton St, Hillsborough. Car seat checks available by appointment only on Thursdays, 1-5 p.m. Call (919) 732-7911.
  • Chatham County Sheriff's Office, 295 West Main Street, Pittsboro. Car seat checks available by appointment only Mon.-Fri. Call Lt. Roberson at (919) 542-2811, ext. 243.

The permanent checking stations were made possible by funding from North Carolina SAFE KIDS in conjunction with the Governor's Highway Safety Program.
