SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A tractor trailer loaded with fresh green peppers caught fire at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on I-95 near Smithfield.

The fully-loaded trailer was heavily damaged, resulting in a massive traffic jam and a secondary accident as traffic came to a stop near Four Oaks.

In the second incident, a driver failed to slow for stopped traffic and slammed into another tractor trailer. The driver was pinned in the vehicle and later transported to an area hospital.
